Last day of work and June Currently!

I wrote this 2 days ago, then my friend had her baby (6 weeks early!) and didn't get back to it!  Congrats to the new momma and little girl!  Everyone is doing great and coming home today!!

My room is quiet and calm.  The peaceful serenity has enveloped all that enter, which has been just a handful of quiet, calm, ecstatic second grade teachers on our last full day of work.  My poor room has been demolished by me.  I have organized until I was tired of it and then resorted to stuffing cabinets so the true procrastinator in me can sort it out on August 13th.  I tried really hard to stay the course and be organized, but I realized yet again, after 8 years of packing up a classroom, that it is just not meant to be.  Organization has eluded me yet again this year.  I did give it a gallant effort though...more so than any other year.  I find that I go into it full steam and then give up 75% of the way into it.  Oh well... :)

Here are some pictures of my classroom.  It is not as bare as it usually is because I (gasp!) defied orders to strip my walls so they can "wash them" (which is never done btw...the same ugly water stains are on my block wall..)  Speaking of walls, are any of you allowed to paint your own classroom?  If so, what color did you choose?  I would big heart LOVE to paint my classroom a soft yellow.  Cocoa butter yellow is the color of my daughter's bedroom and mine growing up was a cheerful yellow.  My classroom faces southwest, so it gets a lot of light.  Ahhhh, I can see it now!  I'm sure that would have a calming effect (or is it affect?? grrrr...) on those ADD/ADHD kiddos, right??? *wink*!

The number of dust bunnies that had reproduced was unreal.  Those trap tables are where I would have my kiddos do their literacy stations or have computer time.

This is my back counter.  I have the mailbox unit on the left where kiddos turn in their work.  On top is where I file their work to send home every Friday.  The newly cleaned and organized bookcase was behind my guided reading table which I thought would be helpful.  No.  I put it back on top of my counter where it was last year.  Then I have my refrigerator (which hopefully will not be illegal next year) and my sink.  Above are my fabric store treasures...2 maps: the US which I quilted every bit and then the world COMPLETE with the Southern Ocean!

The view from across the room.  Nothing spectacular.  I left my word wall up because I really don't wanna put it back up in August.  I hate climbing.

This should be framed and enshrined.  My desk never looks like this.  I am not neat.  :)

There were so many things piled up on top of this AC unit, I knew the fire marshall would be in ANY minute to shut me down.  On top of my filing cabinets (which have 2 empty drawers!!!) are my word study sorts for Letter Name and Within Word.  I am very proud of those sorts.  I made 99.9% of them.  They are my babies.  I also have my teaching license on display because despite popular belief, I am a professional :)

That's just a small glimpse into my classroom.  I will miss it a little bit but will enjoy not seeing it for awhile.

And last but not least, my June Currently!

Please pray for me as I begin to take over potty training my two year old.  She would go for her babysitter.....but not momma.  Any advice would be greatly, greatly, GREATLY appreciated.

  1. I know exactly how you feel about the organizing. I always start out determined to put things away for the summer in an organized manner, but the longer I work at it, I eventually start stuffing things where ever I can find a space! Oh well, it will still be there in August! I found your blog on Farley's linky, and am now a follower!
